Web hosting companies and solutions

This page provides reviews of hosting and domain registration companies and their services. All hosts/registrars listed are very reliable and provide high quality services in their field.

Read on to determine which particular host company will be most suitable to your needs.

godaddy.com - The Daddy of all Registrars

GoDaddy are one of the biggest domain registration and web hosting companies out there. They provide reliable mainstream hosting services, and their up-time record is spotless.

GoDaddy are direct providers - they are not hosting reseller nor domain resellers, they are a certified domain registrar and a direct hosting service provider (if you're not sure what this means - it's a good thing. See here for the diferences between registrars vs. resellers and direct hosting service providers vs. resellers).

GoDaddy host thousands of web-sites on their own servers which in itself is a proof of service quality. They have a 24/7 customer support line and their support staff are knowledgeable and their response time is excellent.

Keep in mind that GoDaddy are first and foremost a domain registrar and then a host. If you are looking for a no-hassle domain registrar and a reliable mainstream hosting plan with the domain fee included and if you're ok with using the standard tools offered by GoDaddy for running your online shop or blog - you've come to the right spot. Their basic hosting package price of $3.99/mth is hard to beat!

If you want anything which is a somewhat "outside the box", or if you plan to ask your host to change their standard configuration in order to accomodate your setup - you're better off with a smaller and more flexible host, say, HostGator.

1and1.com - Standard hosting, as easy as 1+1...

The folks at 1and1 take the job of providing good hosting and domain registration service very seriously. Their prices are very competitive and at time of writing of this review their domain registration fee was actually one of the best ones around (if not the best one - 6.99/yr with doman privacy included vs. 9.99 at godaddy for a non-private .com domain at the time of writing of tis review - Nov 2007).

Solid customer support and very intuitive navigation of their control panel are yet another big checkmark in their favour.

We currently use 1and1 exclusively for all of our new domain name registration needs and we're transfering our existing domains to 1and1 upon expiration - the combination of best prices on the market, friendly interface and responsive customer support is simply irresistable.

Site Build-It! - The total hosting solution!

Sure, it is cheap and quick to put up a web-site. However there is a big difference between a web-site and an online business! Most site owners can never overcome all the technical aspects of building a SUCCESSFUL ONLINE BUSINESS. Instant gratification is followed by slow, expensive failure, due to inability to drive traffic. In other words... no BUSINESS.

Site Build It! (SBI!) approaches the problem of web-hosting from a completely different angle. Unlike the conventional hosts which simply rent you a place on their server (well, to be completely honest the majority of them will actually throw in a couple of tools which would make youe life as a web-master a bit easier) SBI won't leave you high and dry in your online business.

You're not just given a place on a web-server or a tool which will help you generate the pages of your web-ste: using their proven C-T-P-M methodology (Content, Traffic, Presell, Monetize) SBI! empowers webmasters and entrepreneurs to build online BUSINESSES that actually WORK!

hostgator.com - Your friendly host...

Great prices, flexible solutions and responsiveness to customers' requests is the secret to HostGator's success story. They are a smaller host (yes, 700,000 customer web-sites is considered "smaller" in the hosting industry :)) and this allows them to provide their clients with a number of advantages compared to their heavy-weight competitors. (Remember David and Goliath? It's not always the big guy who wins! :))

It's simply very easy to work with HostGator. They have a 45-day money back guarantee (a nice upgrade from the industry-standard 30-day, offered by most other hosts) and, if you wish, you may pay for your hosting on a monthly basis - no contracts, no setup fees (except with the Hatchling package). This makes it real easy for everybody to get a taste of their services -- and a taste of hosting in general, for that matter -- which may be particularly useful if you're new to "this hosting thing" and want to try and see if it works for you.
